Fly fishing the Yellowstone
The park's rivers open from late spring to early November under a park fishing permit, separate from state licences. Barbless hooks; native cutthroat go back in the water.
Winter skiing and snowcoaches
From late December to early March the interior is reachable only by snowcoach or snowmobile. Groomed Nordic tracks run near Old Faithful and Mammoth.
West Yellowstone Nordic events
The town's Rendezvous trail system hosts a ski festival at the end of autumn and a long-running citizens' ski race in early spring.
College football in Bozeman
The nearest big crowd is Montana State, ninety minutes north, whose season runs September to November in a stadium that fills the whole valley.
