The largest of the SeaWorld parks, with coasters, a water park and a Sesame Street area for toddlers. Ages four to twelve; multi-day tickets cut the cost.

Built in an old limestone quarry, so the coasters drop against rock walls. Serious rides from ten upwards, with a gentler cartoon area for under-sevens.

In Brackenridge Park, with a miniature railway that loops the park and a good aquatic house. Ages two to eight, and shaded more than most Texan zoos.

Half an hour north, 180 feet underground and a constant 21°C — an easy escape from a July afternoon. Ages five upwards manage the ramped walking tour.

Do the outdoor thing at opening, retreat to a pool by noon, and take the River Walk after dark when it cools and lights up.
