The island's football clubs play the lower national divisions here from April to October. Entry is cheap and the ground sits just outside the wall.

In July the village of Stånga hosts Gotland's own games — varpa, pärk and stone lifting — contested seriously and watchable for a small fee.

For a week each August the town fills with jousting, archery and staged combat, much of it outdoors and free to watch.

A vast enduro motocross race across the island in late October, with thousands of riders and a start you can hear from town.
