A beach, a river, a tailor and a theme park — Hoi An suits children better than its cobbles suggest.
An Bang Beach
Gently shelving sand four kilometres from the old town, with beach restaurants, sunbeds and lifeguards in the dry months. Any age.
Basket boat, Cam Thanh
Round coracles spun through the water-coconut palms by boatmen who make a performance of it; short, cheap and shaded. Ages 4+.
VinWonders Nam Hoi An
A big park south of town with a water zone, a river safari and a domed aquarium, half an hour by taxi. Ages 3+.
Lantern-making workshop
Hour-long studio sessions in the old town where children build and take home a collapsible silk lantern. Ages 6+.
Cobbles, floods and dinner
The pedestrian hours make the old town safe but the stones defeat strollers. The river floods most Octobers and Novembers; kitchens open from about five.
