Photinus carolinus flash in unison for two or three weeks each year; the 2026 viewing window is 20–27 May. Access is by lottery on Recreation.gov, applications 24–27 April, $1 to enter and $29 if you are drawn. During those eight nights Elkmont is closed after dark to everyone without a vehicle reservation or a campsite booking.

The Gatlinburg moonshine distillery that opened the legal-moonshine business in Tennessee. Tastings run daily with no reservation needed and tours are bookable in advance; of everything on the Parkway it is the one that behaves most like a bar rather than an attraction queue.

At 805 Parkway in Gatlinburg, open daily 10am to 10:30pm, which makes it later than almost anything else in town, with tastings and tours on site. Closed Christmas Day; 865-325-1355.

Mountaintop park above Gatlinburg at 576 Parkway, reached by the Crystal Express gondola or the Ridge Rambler, open until around 9pm in season. The treetop skywalk, the AnaVista tower and the Astra Lumina light-and-sound night walk are the evening draws; hours move with the season, so check the calendar. 865-325-2400.

Operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians at Cherokee, North Carolina, right by the park's southern entrance: gaming floor, a concert arena, restaurants and a hotel. Worth knowing about mainly because it is the only thing on that side of the mountain still open after about 9pm.
