ON A BUDGET
Twenty-two shaded squares, a free shuttle, a free ferry, and an open-container law in the historic district.
Live oaks and Spanish moss over a square in Savannah
South of Forsyth Park
The cheapest beds sit around the southern edge of the Historic District near Forsyth Park and along Abercorn, still walkable to the river.
What a day costs
Bed or budget room 45โ€“70 USD, food 15โ€“35, and effectively nothing on transport since the district is a mile square and flat.
Getting around cheap
The DOT shuttle loops the Historic District free, the Belles Ferry crosses to Hutchinson Island free, and CAT buses reach the airport for a couple of dollars.
Free by day
The squares themselves, Bonaventure Cemetery with its live oaks and Spanish moss, the Forsyth Park fountain and the whole riverfront walk.
Where travellers meet
City Market and River Street, helped by a district law that lets you carry a drink outside in a plastic cup between bars.
