Bar on the river level at 155 East Commerce St, trading since 1933, with what it calls the longest wooden bar top in Texas at over 100 feet. Open 11:30 to midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 2am Friday and Saturday; Downstairs at the Esquire is a smaller riverside cocktail room below it.

Basement jazz room at the Pearl, 312 Pearl Parkway, with live sets and a full food menu served at the tables. The calendar and tickets are on its own site, and you should book if you want a seat rather than standing room.

Live music venue at 2410 N St Mary's St with shows most nights and tickets roughly $5 to $45 depending on the act; some are 21+, some all ages. It anchors the St. Mary's Strip, the run of bars north of downtown where locals drink rather than visitors.

Open-air Southtown ice house at 943 S Alamo St, noon to midnight daily, with 76 taps, a full kitchen and a big screen for games. Dogs and children are allowed, and it is a short walk from the southern end of the River Walk.

Concert hall at 100 Auditorium Circle on the Museum Reach, home to Opera San Antonio, Ballet San Antonio, Orchestra San Antonio and Ballet's fellow resident companies, plus touring comedy and concerts. It also runs free outdoor screenings on Will's Plaza; box office 210-223-8624.
