No baseball or football team — soccer and basketball carry the city, loudly and with flags.
Providence Park
Timbers soccer February to October and Thorns in the women's league March to November, in a 1926 ground wedged into the west hills. The north end never sits.
Moda Center
Trail Blazers basketball October to April across the river in the Rose Quarter, reachable by MAX and the streetcar. Upper-bowl seats stay affordable.
Road races
The Portland Marathon runs in October, and the Shamrock Run in March fills downtown with fifteen thousand people in green. Both take casual entries.
Cyclocross and open streets
Cross Crusade races run October to November on muddy fields around the city, entry cheap and heckling encouraged. Sunday Parkways closes streets to cars in summer.
