Open-air terrace under a kiawe tree at 2199 Kalia Road, with Hawaiian music nightly 5:30–8:30pm and hula from 6:30. Dinner and sunset cocktails run 5pm to 9:30pm, last seating 8:30. A proper seated listening room inside the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort at 2335 Kalākaua Ave, mixing touring acts with Hawaiian musicians across early and late sittings most nights. Book ahead rather than walking up; 808-777-4890.

Beachfront bar and restaurant open 7am to midnight daily, with live music 4–6pm and again 7pm to midnight; the downstairs Barefoot Bar is the part that fills with people straight off the sand. Expect a wait around sunset. 808-922-2268.

Brewery at 1632 Hart Street in the warehouse district, open Tuesday and Wednesday 2–8pm and Thursday to Saturday noon–8pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Hawaii-made beer, craft cocktails, a full lunch and dinner menu and two outdoor beer gardens — it shuts at eight, so treat it as a first stop, not a last one.

A 1922 theatre at 1130 Bethel Street on the downtown edge of Chinatown, restored and reopened in 1996, programming hula, music, comedy and touring theatre. Box office Tuesday to Friday 10am–4pm and Saturday noon–4pm, 808-528-0506; the Nuʻuanu and Hotel Street bars are a two-minute walk from the door.
