Twenty-five miles east, a 1930s stone tower with Hopi murals inside and a staircase to a viewing gallery. The drive out has the quietest viewpoints on the rim.

Two and a quarter hours each way from Williams in restored carriages, with musicians and a staged train robbery. Long, but it removes the drive and the parking.

The rim sits near 7,000 feet, so breath comes short. Do not attempt to reach the river and return in a day with children; summer inside the canyon passes 100°F.
