Free evening star programmes run most nights in high summer, typically July and August, at Apgar on the west side and St. Mary on the east, where the Dusty Star Observatory houses a 20-inch telescope. Programmes start at dusk and can run to midnight, no booking needed — dress for near-freezing even in August.

The bar off the lobby of the 1913 lodge, 10 miles inside the west entrance on Going-to-the-Sun Road, pouring Montana beer, wine and cocktails with the lake in front of it; Russell's Fireside Dining Room and Jammer Joe's are in the same complex. The lodge's 2026 season runs 15 May to 28 September.

Bar at the Belton Chalet, built in 1910 as the first of the Great Northern Railway's park lodges, across from the West Glacier train station at the western end of Going-to-the-Sun Road. Local beer, wine and cocktails, with the Belton Grill dining room next door; the 2026 season runs 8 May to 1 October.

The lake lies northeast to southwest, so the last light runs the length of it and lands on the coloured pebbles along the Apgar shoreline. Apgar Village is a couple of miles inside the west entrance; the walk back to the car park is completely unlit, so carry a torch.

Nothing inside the park serves late and the dining rooms stop seating well before nine, so a real pub night means driving out: roughly 25 minutes from West Glacier to Columbia Falls, about 40 to Whitefish, where Montana's 2am last call applies. Deer and bear use the roads after dark, so keep the speed down on the way back.
