Boardwalks through old cedars, a red-bus tour and lake water cold enough to be memorable.
Trail of the Cedars
A mile-long accessible boardwalk loop through hundred-foot cedars to Avalanche Gorge. Strollers and wheelchairs manage the whole thing; shade all the way.
Red bus tour
Restored 1930s buses with roll-back canvas tops run the Going-to-the-Sun Road with a driver who narrates. Half-day options work better than full with young children.
Running Eagle Falls
Just over half a mile, flat, at Two Medicine โ a waterfall that comes out of a hole in the rock. The quiet corner of the park, with a shorter drive-in.
Apgar Nature Center
Ranger-run activities, hands-on pelts and skulls, and the Junior Ranger booklet. Open in the summer months; a good half-hour before the lake.
Bears, roads and cold water
Carry bear spray and know how to use it. The high road usually opens only from July to mid-October, and lake water stays under 55ยฐF all summer.
