FIESTA SIDE
Charleston's drinking happens on two axes: upper King Street above Calhoun for cocktail bars and late tables, and the neck of the peninsula around Morrison Drive for the music rooms; last call is 2am and the historic lower peninsula is residential and quiet after dinner.

Cocktail lounge at 511 King Street, open 5pm to 2am Monday to Thursday and 3pm to 2am Friday to Sunday, with happy hour 5 to 7pm on weekdays. Classic and house cocktails plus charcuterie and flatbreads; walk-ins only, no reservations.

The Royal American
Music bar in an old forge building on the upper peninsula, kitchen open until 1am daily, booking local, regional and touring acts mostly at weekends. Cheap beer, no dress code, and a very different Charleston from the King Street cocktail bars.

Charleston Pour House
James Island venue trading since 2002 with two stages: the outdoor deck runs free-to-cheap local sets in the 5 to 8:30pm range, while the indoor main stage takes ticketed touring acts from roughly 13 to 55 USD. It is over the Ashley River, so plan the trip back.
