South Carolina Aquarium
On the harbour, with a two-storey Great Ocean Tank and a working sea turtle hospital you can tour. Ages two to ten, roughly two hours.
Patriots Point
Climb through the aircraft carrier Yorktown, a submarine and a destroyer in Mount Pleasant. Ages six upwards; the ladders are steep for smaller children.
Sullivan's Island beach
Twenty minutes out, wide and gently shelving, with lifeguards in season and a shorter shore break than Folly. Ages four upwards, toddlers at the north end.
Charles Towne Landing
The 1670 settlement site, with a replica ship to board and an animal forest holding bison, bears and otters. Ages three to nine.
Cobbles, heat and carriages
The historic streets are uneven — a carrier beats a stroller. Carriage tours run forty minutes and hold toddlers well; summer humidity is heavy by ten.
