Boston Children's Museum
Three floors on Fort Point Channel with a climbing structure, a bubble room and a full Japanese house. Ages one to nine; Friday evenings are discounted.
Museum of Science
The lightning show in the Theater of Electricity runs several times daily, alongside a planetarium and dinosaur hall. Ages five to thirteen.
New England Aquarium
A four-storey spiral around a Caribbean reef tank, with penguins at the base. Ages two to ten; whale-watch boats leave from the dock April to October.
Swan boats and the Garden
Fifteen slow minutes around the Public Garden lagoon, April to September, with the Make Way for Ducklings statues nearby. Ages two to eight.
Bricks, stairs and free rides
The Freedom Trail is two and a half miles of uneven brick โ€” split it in two. Older subway stations have stairs only; under-elevens ride free.
