Maroon Lake scenic loop
A flat mile around the lake beneath the Maroon Bells, reached by a reserved shuttle or permit in the warm months. Marmots, beaver dams, and the photograph everyone has seen.
Silver Queen Gondola
Fifteen minutes to 11,212 feet above town, with a summit deck, short walking loops and ranger-led nature talks in summer. Weather turns fast up there.
Elk Camp and Lost Forest
Snowmass runs an alpine coaster, climbing wall, ropes course and downhill trails from the gondola mid-station in summer. Height limits apply; ages six and up get the most.
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies
A small nature preserve at Hallam Lake with resident birds of prey and naturalist walks. Well pitched at four to ten; an hour or two.
Altitude and afternoon storms
Town sits near 8,000 feet and Maroon Lake near 9,600. Plan a slow first day, push water, and be off high ground before the daily summer thunderstorms.
