Learn to surf

Beach breaks at Rivero and Playa Grande with schools running through summer. Water is cold most of the year — take a wetsuit.

Buy fish off the boats

Fishermen sell the morning catch from stands at the end of the main street. Cheapest and freshest meal in the village.

Walk the fort's ramparts

Santa Teresa is a proper star fort with cannon, restored barracks and a museum, open daily 10-18 year round for 50 pesos cash.

Horse riding on the beach

Operators run rides along the sand and into the forest reserve, typically three hours. Arrange through your hostel or posada.

The evening craft fair

Stalls set up in the village centre through the season with music at sunset. Thins right out from about April onward.
