Playa Mansa and Playa Brava
The headland splits them. Mansa faces west, sheltered and good for sunset; Brava faces open Atlantic with the surf. Both walkable.
Laguna Garzon circular bridge
Rafael Vinoly's ring-shaped road bridge on Ruta 10, opened 2015 and built as a circle to force drivers to slow over the lagoon.
The village grid
Six streets by six of low white houses, a handful of shops and no high-rise anywhere — the whole point of the place. Walk it in 20 minutes.
Getting there
Drive from Punta del Este
40km east on Ruta 10 past La Barra and Manantiales, about 45 minutes. A car is close to essential — local transport is thin.
Fly into Punta del Este (PDP)
Laguna del Sauce is the nearest airport, roughly an hour away. Transfers are easy to arrange in season and scarce in winter.
Bus from Montevideo
Coaches run along Ruta 9 and Ruta 10 to the turn-off, but you will normally need a taxi or transfer for the last stretch into the village.

Best time to go
December to February, when the village is fully open and the sea is swimmable
Cheapest months
May-September, when almost everything closes and rental prices collapse

Christmas to mid-January — some of the highest room rates in South America
If you've got one day
Morning
Walk the village grid out to the lighthouse and along the Brava sand. Six streets by six, so this takes minutes, not hours.
Late morning
Swim or surf on Playa Brava, or cross the headland to the sheltered Mansa side if the Atlantic is up.
Lunch
La Huella on the beach if it is open and you have booked. If not, Popei or another village parador will do the job.
Afternoon
Drive 20 minutes east on Ruta 10 to Vinoly's circular Laguna Garzon bridge, then on into Rocha if the light is good.
Evening
Sunset drinks on the Mansa sand, then dinner in the village. Reserve — there are very few tables and they go early.
Nearby & day trips
Pueblo Garzon
Inland village 30 minutes north, restored around a famous restaurant and a wine estate. Heavily seasonal, so check before you drive.
Manantiales and La Barra
Back west on Ruta 10, the busier beach strip between here and Punta del Este. Better surf schools and far more summer nightlife.
