Walk the old city wall
The bastion and rebuilt ramparts along the waterfront, with the moat and drawbridge at the Porton de Campo. Free, open always.
Rent a golf buggy
The local ritual: buzz the cobbles and the riverfront in a hired buggy or scooter. Rental stands cluster near the old town entrance.

Plaza de Toros Real de San Carlos
A 1910 bullring that hosted eight fights before Uruguay banned the sport in 1912. Restored in 2021 and now used for events.

Sunset on the riverfront
Colonia faces due west across the Rio de la Plata, so sunset over water is the evening's fixture. Rocks by the lighthouse are best.
Basilica del Santisimo Sacramento
Uruguay's oldest church, begun in 1680 and rebuilt after a lightning strike blew up its powder store. On the Plaza de Armas.
