FIESTA SIDE
Where Snowdonia (Eryri) goes after dark — bars, live music and the late ones worth staying up for.
The Nant Ffrancon valley with its winding road
Llanberis
The climbers' town at the foot of the Llanberis Path. Pubs full of people comparing routes, and kitchens that stop around nine.
Beddgelert
A stone village at a river junction, quieter than Llanberis, with two pubs and no reason to stay up.
Betws-y-Coed
The eastern gateway, with hotel bars, outdoor shops and a station on the Conwy Valley line if you are not driving.
Welsh in the pub
Welsh is the everyday language across much of Gwynedd. Conversations switch to English for you as a courtesy, not an obligation.
Dark skies
Eryri is an International Dark Sky Reserve. On a clear night the Milky Way is visible from most valley car parks.
