National Museum of Scotland

Free museum on Chambers Street, open daily 10am to 5pm. Head up to the roof terrace for one of the best free views in the city.

The Royal Yacht Britannia

The former royal yacht, berthed at Ocean Terminal in Leith and about 20 minutes out by tram. Allow two hours for the five decks.

The Real Mary King's Close

Guided tour of buried 17th century closes beneath the City Chambers, around 28 pounds for adults. Tours sell out, so book ahead.

Dean Village and Water of Leith

Free riverside walk from Dean Village to Stockbridge along the Water of Leith Walkway, roughly half an hour of flat, shaded path.

Camera Obscura

Five floors of optical illusions on Castlehill, about 25 pounds in. The rooftop camera obscura show and terrace are the best part.
