At 9–11 Charoenrat Road on the east bank of the Ping, open seven days with live bands from about 20:00 until roughly 01:00 and a different act each hour. It has been running since 1984, does full dinners as well as drinks, and has its own free parking.

A small courtyard venue for the creative arts just outside the east side of the moat, putting on live music and performance on a programme rather than opening every night. Check the schedule page or its Facebook before turning up; enquiries on 097 175 2420.

A brick piazza of bars, restaurants and design shops at the top of Nimmanhaemin Road, open daily 11:00–21:00 with the night market zone running to 22:00. It is the polite end of the Nimman evening; the sois either side of it keep going after the piazza shuts.

A knot of open-air bars in the old city around Zoe in Yellow, cheap by Chiang Mai standards and busiest from about 22:00, with a young backpacker crowd and outdoor tables rather than a dance floor. There is no reliable website for the strip, so judge it by walking past.

Saturday night fills Wualai Road south of the moat and Sunday night fills Ratchadamnoen inside it, both from late afternoon until around 22:00, with street food, buskers and temple courtyards turned into food courts. For a lot of visitors this is the actual evening out, and it costs whatever you eat.
