Dhow and ngalawa racing
Outrigger and dhow crews race off Nungwi and Stone Town through the calmer kaskazi months, roughly December to March. Watching from the sand is free.
Beach football at sunset
Every stretch of sand from Kendwa to Jambiani fills with barefoot games as the tide drops, and visitors get waved in without ceremony.
Amaan Stadium football
The Zanzibar league and the islands' own national side play at the Amaan Complex in Stone Town, roughly September to May, for a couple of dollars.
Kitesurfing at Paje
The kaskazi and kusi winds make Paje a teaching bay from December to March and again June to September; lessons run in three-hour blocks.
