The things worth doing in Zurich, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
Swiss National Museum
Everything from Carolingian carving to the making of modern Switzerland, in a fantasy castle beside the Hauptbahnhof. Tuesday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday 10am-5pm, Thursday to 7pm, closed Monday.
Lake Zurich boat
Scheduled boats leave Bürkliplatz for the short round trip or the long haul to Rapperswil. Swiss Travel Pass holders ride free, and so do Zurich Card holders on the near end of the lake.
Lindt Home of Chocolate
A factory-scale museum in Kilchberg with a giant chocolate fountain and free tasting at the end. Reach it by S-Bahn or by boat; weekends are heaving.
Bahnhofstrasse and the Schipfe
One kilometre of one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world, and one surviving lane of craft workshops on the river below the Lindenhof. Walk both, buy on neither.
Zurich Zoo and the Masoala hall
A glass-roofed rainforest kept at tropical heat, which makes it the obvious wet-day plan. Tram 6 from the centre takes you to the gate.
