An underground reconstruction of the old village, holding the rope that broke on the 1865 descent. Small, well made and worth an hour.

Get off the Gornergrat train at Rotenboden and walk ten minutes down to the lake for the reflection. Still water only in the morning, before the wind gets up.

The Sunnegga-Blauherd-Rothorn line climbs to 3,103 metres with the Monte Rosa massif opposite, and is consistently quieter than Gornergrat.

A boardwalk bolted through a narrow serpentine gorge cut by the glacier river, twenty minutes' walk from the village. Summer only, and closed when the water is high.

A short cable car to the first station above the village, then a loop over a suspension bridge and past the glacier garden. The cheapest way to get properly above Zermatt.
