Funiculars, caves and lake steamers — the scenery does the work, the prices do the damage.
Harder Kulm funicular
Ten steep minutes to a glass viewing platform above town, with a restaurant and easy forest paths at the top. From about age four.
St Beatus Caves
A lit walkway past underground waterfalls above Lake Thun, cool on hot days, with a gorge path back down. Ages five up, an hour.
Grindelwald First
Cable car to a cliff walk, then scooters, mountain carts and a zip line back down in stages. Height and age limits apply per activity.
Lake swimming at Neuhaus
A grassy lido on Lake Thun with a shallow shore, playground and pedalos, a short bus ride from town. Free-ish and any age.
Trains, passes and weather
Children under six travel free on Swiss trains and six to sixteen ride cheaply with a Junior card. Mountain weather turns fast — pack layers and lunch.
