Friisgatan 26, Malmö's main mid-size concert hall, with a programme booked more than a year ahead and the Scania restaurant and bar attached, open Tuesday to Saturday. Age limits apply in the lounge, so check the individual event listing.

Spångatan 38, a concert and club venue that also runs stage shows and serves food, with programming that swings from indie to metal. Small enough that the club nights feel like a party rather than an arena.

Bergsgatan 29, an independent house going for 28 years, mixing club nights such as PULSE with concerts, circus, theatre and installations. Season passes exist if you are staying a while; it is the least mainstream of the city's venues.

The square south of the centre is the cheap end of the city's drinking, and the surrounding blocks hold most of the late, unfussy bars within a couple of minutes of each other. Busy and loud in summer, and open later than the harbour side.
