Trams, an island ferry on the transit ticket, and a park zoo you can walk into free.
Linné and Haga
Beds concentrate around Linnégatan and the streets behind Järntorget — a short tram ride from the station, and the cheapest eating in the city.
What a day costs
SEK 650–1,100, roughly $60–105: dorm 300–500, food 200–350 if you use the weekday lunch deals, a Västtrafik day ticket around 100.
Västtrafik trams
A single day ticket covers trams, buses and the Älvsnabben river ferries. Styr & Ställ city bikes are cheap by the season and the centre is flat.
Free by day
Slottsskogen park keeps elk, seals and penguins in open enclosures at no charge, and the Botanical Garden asks only a voluntary donation.
Andra Långgatan
A run of dive bars, record shops and cheap kitchens behind Järntorget where hostel crowds and students mix. Prices drop sharply away from Avenyn.
