Chairlifts, huskies and a canyon walk — Arctic scale delivered without much walking.
Aurora Sky Station
A chairlift up Nuolja to a viewpoint and café, running for aurora viewing in winter and midnight sun in summer. Warm suits are lent out.
Abisko canyon walk
A short boardwalk route along the gorge to where the river meets Torneträsk. Flat enough for six-year-olds, and fenced at the exposed points.
Husky sledding
Kennels near the station run half-day tours from December to April. Children from about five ride in the sled; teenagers can drive their own team.
Kiruna and Jukkasjärvi
An hour and a half east, the ice hotel is open from December to April and the mine tour runs year-round. Both work well from about seven.
Cold and darkness
Minus twenty is ordinary in January and the sun does not rise for weeks. Overalls and boots rent at the station; budget more indoor time than you think.
