WITH KIDS
Shallow coves, a wooden train through the mountains and caves with an underground lake — a long-standing family island.
Turquoise cove on Mallorca's coast
Palma Aquarium
A deep Mediterranean tank, a shark room and a jungle roof at Platja de Palma. About two hours; ages 2+.
Sóller train and tram
A 1912 wooden train from Palma through Tramuntana tunnels to Sóller, then an open tram down to the port. An hour each way; any age.
Cala Mondragó
Two shallow, protected coves inside a natural park on the south-east coast, with sand, pines and a short walk between them. Toddler-safe.
Coves del Drac
Underground lakes at Porto Cristo, with a boat crossing and a violin concert played on the water. Cool, dark, about an hour. Ages 5+.
Hire a car, mostly
Buses connect the resorts but not the coves, and child seats book out in July. Resort hotels serve buffet dinners from 6.30pm, which suits small children.
