The Nasrid palaces, fortress and summer gardens above the city. Open daily 8:30am to 6pm from 15 October to 31 March and 8:30am to 8pm from 1 April to 14 October; the general day ticket is €22.27 and under-12s are free but must be booked at the same time as the adults. A maximum of 10 tickets per person, and it sells out well in advance — book before you book flights.

The chapel Isabella and Ferdinand built for their own tombs, attached to the cathedral on Calle Oficios in the middle of the shopping streets. The marble effigies are upstairs and the actual coffins sit in the crypt below them. Admission prices changed in January 2025, so check the official page rather than an older guidebook.

The medieval Moorish quarter across the valley from the Alhambra, a grid of white houses and stepped lanes that is part of the same UNESCO listing. The Mirador de San Nicolás gives the standard view of the palaces against the Sierra Nevada; it is free and heaving at sunset, and a minibus from Plaza Nueva saves you the climb.

Eleven original cave dwellings at Barranco de los Negros in Sacromonte, fitted out to show the traditional crafts, flamenco history and Roma culture of the quarter. Entry is €5, there is a free audio guide through QR codes, and the site's own viewpoint looks straight across at the Alhambra.

Arab baths at Calle Santa Ana 16, a couple of minutes from Plaza Nueva: a circuit of hot, warm and cold pools plus a steam room, with an optional massage added on. Sessions are timed and have to be booked in advance, swimwear is required, and it is a sensible thing to line up for the evening after a full day on the Alhambra hill.
