ON A BUDGET
Granada still gives a free tapa with every drink, which makes it the cheapest night out in Spain.
The Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada behind
Realejo and Albaicín
Hostels sit in the Realejo below the Alhambra and up in the Albaicín. The Albaicín is prettier and a very steep walk home.
What a day costs
Dorm €14–25, and free tapas mean dinner costs roughly the price of three drinks. Around €35–60 a day, roughly $40–70.
Getting around cheap
The C31, C32 and C34 minibuses grind up to the Alhambra, Albaicín and Sacromonte for about €1.40. Everything else is downhill walking.
Free by day
The Mirador de San Nicolás at sunset, the Albaicín's lanes, the cathedral's exterior and the Sacromonte viewpoints. The Alhambra itself still needs a ticket.
Plaza Nueva and Calle Elvira
Where the free walking tours start and the tapas crawl ends; Calle Elvira's bars run late and hostels tend to gather here first.
