Isle of Kerrera and Gylen
Five minute ferry to Kerrera then an 11km circuit to the ruined Gylen Castle. Four hours or so, with a tearoom about halfway round.
Dunollie Museum and Castle
Clan MacDougall ruin, museum and grounds just north of town, 13 pounds and valid all season. Tuesday to Sunday, mid March to October.
Dunstaffnage Castle
Thirteenth century castle and ruined chapel at Dunbeg, a short drive north. Daily 9.30am to 4.30pm from April, and shorter in winter.
Ganavan Sands
Sandy beach two miles north of town with views to Mull and Lismore. Parking is tight in summer, so take the bus from the centre.
Sealife Adventures
Wildlife boat trips from Seil, south of Oban, taking in the Corryvreckan whirlpool. Three to five hours, from about 73 pounds.
