Culloden Battlefield
The 1746 battlefield five miles east of town. The moor itself is free to walk; the visitor centre is 12.50 pounds and opens at 9am.
Clava Cairns
Bronze Age burial cairns and standing stones near Culloden, free and open all year. The car park is small, so go early or late.
Inverness Castle Experience
Reopened castle towers with immersive Highland exhibits, 20 pounds booked online and 22 on the door. Gardens and bistro are free.
Leakey's Bookshop
Secondhand bookshop in a converted Church Street church with over 100,000 books and a wood stove. Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5.30pm.
Ness Islands
Free walk over Victorian footbridges onto wooded islands in the River Ness, ten minutes from town. The loop takes under an hour.
