WITH KIDS
Shallow, clear water and no traffic to speak of — but nothing you forget can be bought here.
Wooden walkway to a Culebra beach
Flamenco Beach
A wide horseshoe of white sand with lifeguards, food kiosks, showers and water that stays shallow well out. The safest swim on the island. Any age.
Tamarindo Beach
Seagrass beds just off the rocks where green turtles feed most mornings; there is no shade and the entry is stony. Ages 6 and up.
Boat to Culebrita
A short crossing to an uninhabited cay with a ruined lighthouse and tidal rock pools children can sit in. Ages 6 and up.
Zoni Beach
Long, empty and windward, with more swell than Flamenco and no facilities. Good for older children who want waves. Ages 8 and up.
Bring it with you
There is a clinic, not a hospital, and the shops are small. Pack nappies, sunscreen and any medicine; roads are steep and unkind to pushchairs.
