The rebuilt Hanseatic core: Długi Targ, the crane on the Motława, the amber shops and most of the restaurants, with Gdańsk Główny station a ten-minute walk away. Highest prices in the city, and during St Dominic's Fair from late July the streets outside your window are a market until late.

A few minutes north on the SKM train. Nineteenth-century tenements, real shops, a normal restaurant scene at local prices, and the station where the airport train hands you over to the SKM. The right call if you are staying more than three nights and would rather live somewhere than visit it.

Twenty minutes by SKM from Gdańsk Główny: a long sand beach, the wooden pier and the Monte Cassino bar strip. Rates climb hard in July and August and weekends are loud; out of season it is cheap and half-empty, and you are still 20 minutes from the Main Town.

Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia sit on a single commuter line. SKM and Polregio trains run the length of it and MZKZG metropolitan tickets cover those trains plus ZTM Gdańsk trams and buses, Sopot and ZKM Gdynia on one fare. Booking in Gdynia or Wrzeszcz instead of the Main Town often halves the room rate for 20 minutes on a train.
