Av. San Martín 130, in the restored 19th-century Mansión Berninzon — 1,200 square metres of republican mansion turned into a warren of themed rooms, with pisco-led cocktails and Peruvian food. Open 12:00–02:00 Sunday to Wednesday and 12:00–03:00 Thursday to Saturday.

The first Peruvian bar to make the World's 50 Best Bars list, working from research into each ingredient's origin, with an on-site ice room that cuts a bespoke piece of ice for every drink. Expensive by Lima standards and small — reserve through their site rather than turning up.

Between the Puente de los Suspiros and Avenida Grau the bars, peñas and restaurants sit within a few blocks of one another, which is the whole reason nights here start and finish in this district. Thursday to Saturday it is genuinely busy; earlier in the week it is patchy.

Bars and late restaurants ring the park and run up Calle Berlín and Calle San Ramón. It is blander and more touristed than Barranco, but it is walkable from most hotels and has something open on the weeknights when Barranco does not.

Use a ride-hailing app rather than flagging a street taxi, and agree nothing at the kerb. Barranco to Miraflores is a short and cheap hop; Barranco or Miraflores back from the historic centre late at night is a longer run and worth budgeting for.
