A grey coastal capital that eats extremely well and charges very little for it away from Miraflores.
Barranco over Miraflores
Barranco has the cheaper, better hostels and the bars; Miraflores has the clifftop parks and the safer late-night walk. Both are half an hour from the centre.
What a day costs
Roughly 90–170 soles, about $24–46: a dorm 35–60, a menú 12–20, ceviche in a market cevichería 20–35, buses two to four soles.
Metropolitano and Línea 1
The Metropolitano busway runs its own lane the length of the city on a rechargeable card, with the metro and corridor buses filling in. Airport transfers are the one splurge.
Free by day
The clifftop Malecón parks, the paragliding launch at Parque Raimondi, and Barranco's Puente de los Suspiros cost nothing.
Parque Kennedy
The cat-filled square in Miraflores is where hostel groups, street food and free tours all converge; Barranco's Plaza de Armas takes over after dark.
