FIESTA SIDE
For its size Tromsø drinks seriously — student town, fishing port and two months without daylight — and nearly everything is within a few streets of Storgata.
Northern lights over Tromsø
Ølhallen
Mack brewery's beer hall at Storgata 4, pouring since 1928, with 72 taps. Mon–Sat 12:00–00:30, Sun 13:00–19:30, so it is an afternoon and early-evening place rather than a late one; groups should book a table.
Bastard Bar
Bar and live music venue at Strandgata 22, running since 2009, with an open jam every Tuesday and gigs across most genres. Mon–Thu and Sun 18:00–02:00, Fri–Sat 18:00–03:30.
Verdensteatret
Cinema at Storgata 93B showing new releases and old classics daily, plus festival screenings and children's matinees — a sensible plan for a dark evening that does not involve a bar.
Storgata
The main pedestrian street holds most of the city's bars within a few minutes of each other, so an evening needs no transport at all. Queues build late on Friday and Saturday.
The light decides the evening
In midwinter the sun does not rise for roughly two months and people go out early and stay out; in summer it never properly sets and terraces are busy at one in the morning. Dress and sleep accordingly.
