The flat cliff above Lysefjorden, reached on a steep, rocky path from the car park by Preikestolen fjellstue; about four hours there and back, and harder than the photographs suggest. Winter needs boots, layers and a plan for the daylight.

Museum in a former canning works about the sardine industry that fed Stavanger before oil, including the printed tin labels the local word iddis refers to. Part of Museum Stavanger, whose 170 kr adult ticket is a day pass to all its museums; under 18 free.

Lanes of white-painted wooden houses on the west side of the harbour, still lived in rather than preserved as a museum. Free to walk, five minutes from the quay, and quiet if you go early.
