Cheap beds sit around the harbour and in Storhaug just east; the lakeside hostel at Mosvangen is quieter and a bus ride from the centre.

One Kolumbus ticket covers city buses and local ferries; the Tau ferry and connecting bus is the cheap way to the Preikestolen trailhead.

A single short street of coloured buildings and small bars where hostel crowds and locals overlap; the harbour quays fill on light summer evenings.
