THINGS TO DO
The things worth doing in Rotterdam, from the obvious landmarks to the ones locals actually rate.
The Erasmusbrug and Rotterdam's high-rise skyline
Kunsthal
Rem Koolhaas's 1992 building in the Museumpark: 3,300 square metres, seven exhibition spaces and no permanent collection whatsoever. Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
Delfshaven
The one strip of the city the bombs missed: a seventeenth-century harbour of gabled houses, a working windmill, and the church the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from in 1620.
Euromast
Hugh Maaskant's tower, 101 metres when it opened for the 1960 Floriade and given another 85 in 1970. The crow's nest sits at 96 metres, with a restaurant and two hotel suites in it.
Maritiem Museum
At the Leuvehaven, with a harbour of historic ships moored outside it. The clearest available explanation of how the port actually works.
Erasmusbrug on foot
Ben van Berkel's asymmetric white pylon over the Maas, and the shape the city uses as its signature. Walk it south at dusk, then carry on into Kop van Zuid.
