EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Ulcinj eats Albanian rather than Montenegrin: bakery byrek and thick coffee in the morning, grilled fish and lamb at night, and a green market that tells you what is in season.
Zelena pijaca — the green market
Ulcinj's daily fruit and vegetable market below the centre, near the bus station: figs and pomegranates in late summer, local olive oil, cheese and honey. The bakeries around it are where to buy breakfast for a euro or two.

Restaurant Kalaja, Old Town
Terrace restaurant inside the old town walls above the sea, open 9am to 1am daily, doing seafood, grill and pizza. Dishes run from about EUR 14 for a pizza to EUR 25 for a salmon steak, so it is a sit-down dinner rather than a quick lunch.

The Mala Plaza promenade
The paved seafront strip between the small beach and the old town gate, lined with grills, pizzerias and ice cream. It is the default evening eating street for anyone staying in town, and it stays busy long after the beach clubs empty.

Byrek and Turkish coffee — the morning habit
Bakeries around the bazaar sell byrek by the slab from early morning, cut by weight and eaten standing up, with coffee served thick and unfiltered. It is the cheapest breakfast in town and the one meal that runs all year.
