PICK YOUR BASE
Four hundred metres of seafront and no chain hotel: you either pay for a palace room on the water, climb into the lanes above, or sleep in Kotor and bus in.
The seafront palaces
Perast's hotels are converted baroque captains' houses on the single waterfront street. Expensive, and the only way to have the village once the last bus has gone and the coaches have left.

The lanes above the seafront
Apartments in the stepped upper village cost noticeably less and look down onto both islands. You carry luggage up stone steps and there are no lifts.

Kotor as a base
Twelve kilometres down the bay, with far more beds at every price level. The Kotor–Risan bus stops on the main road above Perast roughly hourly for about €1.50, and you walk down into the village.

Park once, then walk
The seafront is closed to cars from May to October. You leave the car in the lot at either end of the village for around €8 a day, cash, with no pre-booking — so check whether a room includes a space before you commit to driving.
