EAT LIKE A LOCAL
One quay, a dozen kitchens, coach-trip prices at lunchtime, and an almond cake the village has been making since the 1600s.

The quay, end to end
Practically every restaurant in Perast sits on the same 400-metre waterfront, so the choice is which terrace rather than which part of town. It is at its worst between noon and 2.30pm, when the coach groups are in.

Peraška torta
The village almond cake, dated here to 1664 and eaten with coffee rather than as a dessert course. Seafront cafés sell it by the slice, and it is the one genuinely local thing on any menu.
Buzara, the Boka default
Shellfish cooked in white wine, garlic and breadcrumbs is the standard preparation across the bay and is on every menu here. Ordered as a starter to share it costs a fraction of a whole grilled fish.

Nothing here is cheap
There is no budget end to Perast — no market, no back street with lower prices, because there is no back street. If you are counting, eat the main meal in Kotor or on the Dobrota promenade and keep Perast for coffee, cake and a glass of wine.
