It is lake fish and Crmnica red wine, cooked in about a dozen kitchens, most of them on one Virpazar street.
Smoked carp and grilled bleak
The two things to order: krap, the carp, smoked over a fire, and ukljeva, the small bleak that is grilled or dried. Eel is on most menus as well, and all of it is served with the local red.
The Virpazar harbour terraces
Effectively the village's entire restaurant scene: a short row of kitchens around the harbour and the two bridges, all doing the same lake fish. Kitchens stop early, and most of them close altogether from November to March.
Vranac and Krstač from a village cellar
Crmnica, the hillside behind the lake, is the wine district: family cellars in and around Virpazar and Godinje pour Vranac (red) and Krstač (white) with cheese and pršut rather than working from a food menu.
Eat early, and eat where you sleep
This is a village, not a town — shops are small, kitchens stop well before midnight and nothing on the lake serves late. If you are driving on to Murići or Rijeka Crnojevića for the evening, sort food out before you go.
