PICK YOUR BASE
The choice is between sleeping inside the walls, on the bay strip north of them, or across the water — noise, price and walking distance are the only real variables.

Old Town — inside the walls
Apartments and small hotels in stone lanes with no cars and no lifts, a minute from everything and directly above bars that run past midnight. You carry bags in from a paid lot outside the gates.

Dobrota — the bay strip north
A long line of apartment buildings and family konobas along the water, 15 to 30 minutes on foot to the Sea Gate, with swimming ladders straight off the promenade. Quieter nights and better value.

Muo and Prčanj — the far shore
Across the water facing the town, on the shore road or a short taxi ride. Village houses, swimming off the rocks, and the lit Old Town in front of you rather than around you.
Sort the car out before you book
Cars cannot enter the walled town and Old Town apartments come with no parking, so ask where the space actually is and what it costs. Anywhere on the Dobrota or Muo shore road, check it is not on the far side of the traffic.
