The 11-minute gondola to the Lovćen side costs €25 return for adults but €7 for children aged 2–12 (€14 and €4 one way). At the top there is an alpine coaster at €12, an aerobar at €15 (€5 for children, drink included) and a playground. Runs 9am–10pm, from 10.30am on Tuesdays.

North of the walls the paved promenade has ladders and platforms straight into flat bay water, with cafés along it. Fifteen to thirty minutes on foot from the Sea Gate, and free.

The town's summer festival runs 13 July to 16 August with more than 200 programmes, including theatre, staged in the squares and churches of the Old Town. Tickets sell through the GigsTix network rather than at the door.

Kotor's street cats are fed and looked after by residents, they are everywhere in the lanes, and for small children they are usually the memorable part of the day. Costs nothing.

The fortress staircase is unshaded and has long drops with no railing in places. With young children, either go at 7am when the gate opens in summer, or take the cable car instead and keep the walls for the lower sections.
