Montenegro's party capital: a compact Venetian old town ringed by beaches, boat trips and hillside superclubs that run hard from June to September.
Walk the Old Town walls
A short circuit of ramparts over orange roofs and the Adriatic, plus the Citadela's maritime library and museum. Small combined fee.
Mogren Beach cliff path
A free walkway past the Ballerina statue leads to two linked coves under the cliffs, ten minutes from the Old Town gate.
Boat to Sveti Nikola
Fifteen minutes from Slovenska Plaza to Budva's uninhabited island: pine shade, clear water and a cave you can swim into.
Sunset drink on the walls
Trocadero sits on the Venetian fortification with a long gin list and the islet in view, then turns into a DJ bar after midnight.
Big night at Top Hill
The open-air superclub 2km above town: house, EDM and Balkan pop for thousands. Late June to late August, with shuttle buses.
Fly Tivat (TIV)
The nearest airport, about 25km and 30-40 minutes by road. Transfers run EUR 30-45; scheduled buses leave from Tivat town, not the terminal.
Fly Podgorica (TGD)
Montenegro's year-round hub, roughly 65km and just over an hour by road, with many more low-season flights than Tivat.
Coastal bus
Buses from Kotor take about 40 minutes for EUR 4-5, with frequent services from Podgorica, Bar and Ulcinj too.
Best time to go
Mid-June and September: warm sea, clubs open, beaches still breathable
Cheapest months
November to March, but the nightlife scene is essentially shut
Priciest & busiest
Late July to late August, peaking on the festival weekends
Morning
Beat the heat on Mogren: take the cliff path from the Old Town gate and swim before the loungers fill up.
Late morning
Loop the Old Town walls and the Citadela, then get lost in the marble lanes behind the three-church square.
Lunch
Seafood and a carafe of Krstac on an Old Town terrace, or grilled fish down at the Ricardova Glava end.
Afternoon
Boat over to Sveti Nikola island for pine shade and far clearer water than anything on the town beaches.
Evening
Sunset drink up on the walls, dinner late, then a taxi to Top Hill or a garden bar back inside the Old Town.
