The bay's long-running billfish tournament runs out of Marina Vallarta in November, with the weigh-ins open to spectators on the dock.

The nearest top-flight football is four hours inland: Chivas at the Estadio Akron, Atlas in the same city. Apertura July–December, Clausura January–May.
